The Beef Cattle Analysis Council (BCRC) has introduced the participants within the 2021-22 Beef Researcher Mentorship program.
Following an open utility course of, 4 researchers from throughout Canada had been chosen:
- Dr. Gleise Medeiros da Silva, who just lately joined the school on the Division of Agricultural, Meals & Dietary Science on the College of Alberta as an assistant professor and can be the BCRC Hays Chair in Beef Manufacturing Techniques. Dr. da Silva’s mentors are Fred Lozeman, blended farmer at Claresholm, Alta. and Darren Bevans, basic supervisor of Deseret Ranches, close to Raymond, Alta.
- Dr. Hari Prasad Poudel, forage breeding analysis scientist at Agriculture and Agri-Meals Canada Lethbridge Analysis and Growth Centre. Dr. Poudel’s mentors are Doug Wray, co-owner and operator at Wray Ranch, and Graeme Finn, of Southern Cross Livestock Ranch, close to Madden, Alta.
- Dr. Maria Ceballos Betancourt, assistant professor in beef cattle welfare and behavior on the W.A. Ranches on the College of Calgary, School of Veterinary Medication. Dr. Betancourt’s mentors are Joyce Van Donkersgoed, DVM and feedlot proprietor/operator at Coaldale, Alta., and Jake Bueckert, managing proprietor of Driland Feeders, at Warner, Alta.
- Dr. Stephanie Terry, analysis scientist with Agriculture and Agri-Meals Canada’s Lethbridge Analysis and Growth Centre. Dr. Terry’s mentors are Dr. Christine Rosser, ruminant nutritionist at Coaldale Veterinary Clinic, and Ryan Kasko, basic supervisor of Kasko Cattle Co.
The program offers alternative for brand new researchers to be paired with two mentors, one who’s a producer, and one from trade, which might be related matches to their profession targets, in addition to a journey finances to attend trade occasions.
